(This has an interesting background; I wrote a play with a friend of mine, Corinne, a long time ago. The play starred us, and we had to defeat this monster called The Kelp, which is a Hippocamp (half-horse, half-fish). The whole play was a joke, as the characters constantly alluded to the fact that they were in a play, and I think even asked the audience for help once. Anyway, I got bored once, so I decided to write this as a sequel to the original "The Kelp" story. The actual play is pretty long, in pages, so this is just a promotional excerpt.)
Corinne: It looks like -
Ronni: - The Kelp's -
Corinne: it's head! -
[They stare for a beat]
Ronni: At least, I hope, it's dead
Corinne: Well, of course, we killed it. But, whats it still doing here?
Ronni: Musta not washed out to sea properly
Corinne: That's kinda dumb
Ronni: I know
[They stare for a beat]
Ronni: So, uh, what do we do now?
Corinne: I have no idea. Maybe we should tie a bunch of rocks to it and throw it out to sea again. Or we could nail it to a plank of wood and hang it on our walls
Ronni: Or the town hall so everyone would know its really dead
Corinne: Or something like that
[At that moment, the head of The Kelp raises out of the water, and the body is still attached to it. It moves toward the girls]
Ronni: Um, is that normal?
Corinne: It's still alive!
Ronni: How!?
Corinne: I don't know, but run!
[Corinne screams and both girls run away from the beach, towards the town. The Kelp slowly follows them, but gaining speed]
Ronni: Wait, It's following us!
Corinne: Run faster then!
Ronni: No, we can't go towards town! It'll wreck havoc on everyone again!
Corinne: Oh, right! Towards the peninsula then!
[They change course and head towards a nearby peninsula. When they get there, they look around and realize they're stuck.]
Corinne: Oh no! There's no way to escape now!
Ronni: No! We can't die, not after we just killed The Kelp!
The Kelp: No...! I am not dead!! I Live!! And you...you to shall Die!!
Ronni: But we killed you! Why aren't you dead!
The Kelp: You pathetic mortal can not kill me! But I... I will... not kill you....
Corinne: What?
The Kelp: No...no, my beauties. I am greatly sorry for any trouble I know I caused. Let me make it up to you...you two. I will let you ride my back, I will. I will let you use me like a slave....
Ronni: And why would we do that?
Corinne: We're not going to treat you like a slave, no matter how evil you are!
The Kelp: No, no, you must, there is no other why I can repay the debt! Ride me... ride me!
Ronni: Wait... no! We wont ride you!
Corinne: You're tricking us, aren't you?
Ronni: You'll drown us!
Corinne: Go back to the dark depths of the sea! Go back to the evil waters from which you came from! Leave this peaceful town and it's people to live in... peace!
[The kelp hisses (yes, hisses) at Corinne and runs towards her. Ronni pulls Corinne out of the way, and the Kelp jumps into the water and swims away.]
Ronni: Very profound. Very dramatic. We'd better figure out why it didn't die
Corinne: I sounded cool, didn't I? The words just came to me, like I was reading them from the script and I hadn't memorized them
Ronni: Yes, very good. I guess its a good thing you were in Drama during Middle School, else you wouldn't have gotten into Drama during High School
Corinne: Yeah, well, we'd better go, like you said, and figure out why The Kelp is still alive. We killed it, I thought
Ronni: I thought too. Come on, lets go.
