CompletedLoZ: Wind Waker (
Chuggaconroy) This was the LP that got me into LPs. I saw a link on my Youtube home, thought "huh," and looked it up. And watched the whole thing. This is from someone who has beaten Wind Waker twice already - being this hooked on a video of someone else beating the game was a sign. Chuggaconroy is an amazing LPer, just plain interesting to listen to. He explained things a casual gameplayer (like I) wouldn't notice, and was funny, with just an interesting way of talking.
Earthbound (
Chuggaconroy) After going through Chuggaconroy's other LPs (Too nervous to look for other LPers at this point), I decided to watch Earthbound, which is a game I knew was popular and well known, and something I should be familiar with (but I wasn't). As Chugga's first LP, I could tell there were a lot of differences between this and Wind Waker, but I stuck through it, even though the game is turn-based (DX). I really liked the LP, though, and Chuggaconroy was able to make it pretty cool.
Paper Mario(1) (
Chuggaconroy) This one I decided to watch in the lull time between Wind Waker and Chugga's next LP. Having played the second Paper Mario, I thought it was worth it to watch the first one. Again, I can only say that I though Chugga's narration is what made it interesting - this is ALSO turn-based (DXDX), and I'm not a huge fan of Mario to begin with (gasp!). However, I don't want to detract from the LP - someone who has more stamina for Mario would probably love it, and I liked it enough.
The Legend of Zelda (
Oyster) At this point in my LP journey, I decided to go over every LoZ game that I had ever not played all the way through - which of course starts with LoZ itself. I only found one guy LPing it, however, on the Something Awful forums (Of which I am not a member, but all their video links get posted on the LP archive), Oyster. I do not like Oyster. He doesn't play the same way Chuggaconroy does - he didn't talk about what he was doing the whole time he LP'd, so I had no clue what was going on. Also, he had guests for every level giving him some sort of hindrance-rule, like "Can't kill things with your sword" or "Run the dungeon with three hearts." TT_TT Also, he cussed practically every other word, which I am not a fan of. I forced my way through it, though, just for you, Zelda.
LoZ: Adventure of Link (
NintendoCapriSun) After trudging through LoZ, Adventure of Link was like a shining light. The LP was done in a Youtube style (I.E. the video is actually about the game, versus the Something Awful Forums style, which is apparently to make the video all about the LPer). NintendoCapriSun also has a nice voice, and though he wasn't as interesting as Chuggaconroy, he didn't have to be because the game (Side-Scrolling Zelda?) was cool enough. The first of only a few LPs that made me want to actually play the game for myself.
Pokemon: Crystal (
Chuggaconroy) Technically, At the time of me posting this, the LP isn't finished, but I stopped watching once Kanto started (I had just finished playing LeafGreen for myself, and there is such a thing as too much Pokemon). I think having just played Pokemon made this a little harder for me, because this game is, as anyone knows, HEAVILY turn-based (DXDXDX). I got through it though because Pokemon is interesting, and I havn't played Second Gen. in a long time, and Chuggaconroy was... for the most part interesting. Honestly, though, this was much more informative than other LPs have been, as there are three freakin' hundred pokemon with stats to cover.
PoP: Sands of Time (
Sethur) There were two people on Youtube playing this, but both had bad video and game-sound quality (Serious, were they holding a mic. to the speaker? Even I can do better than that!), so I had to go to the LP archive, and found Sethur, who, no offense, is definitely as-good-as or even better than Chuggaconroy (probably because this wasn't a turn-based game XD). I started this to prep for the movie coming out (If I wouldn't see the movie before reading the book, why would I see the movie before LPing the game?), and later decided not to see the movie because I fell in love with the game, and I knew they were going to ruin it. The plot was amazing, the gameplay was amazing, and Sethur had an amazing and interesting way of putting it all together. Loved it.
Portal (
BryTheFryGuy and
Lantis02) So, I started watching Bry's LP (Though I was annoyed he didn't have a playlist set up) but right away I realized he was kinda boring. Then I found Lantis02, who was interesting or the most part, but partway through the LP he decided to call a friend, and muted the game, which I normally wouldn't have minded, but The entire plot of the game comes from GLaDOS's dialogue, so... I went back to Bry, and managed to get through (He was a bit more interesting the second half). As for the game itself... One creepy game, gotta say. The control look kinda confusing, but that's just me. But mostly, the minimum-dialogue, sterile environment, and GLaDOS's hintingly sinister autotune just kinda freaked me out (Not terribly but enough that I don't think I'll be playing this by myself at midnight). I liked that it had a different style, though, and definitely a significant game in game-culture. (Just wish I could find better LPers).
LoZ: Link's Awakening (
NintendoCapriSun) I actually started playing this game, because I was trying to work my way through the entire series as preparation for Skyward Sword. However, I was playing during school, and got off track and didn't get very far. After a while I decided to just watch an LP. I've learned to like NCS - he's a bit of an idiot at times, but that kinda makes the LP more interesting. Anyway, when I saw he had done this (Along with most Zelda games) I decided I'd watch his. The game is pretty interesting (I think I like Link to the Past better, but this had that strange quantum reality side, which I really liked). The ending was pretty cool, worthy of a good Zelda title.
Shadow of the Colossus (
Lyrax) I decided to watch this one because it was short and I found it on a list of "most emotional video games." I was bawling at the end - not even joking. The LPer was amazing, especially for his first (and only, as far as I can see) Let's Play. The entire game is so serious and he kept the tone correctly. I started watching just to see if I would add this particular LP version to my upcoming list and ended up being unable to stop watching all night. The gameplay is so dramatic and powerful in and of itself, and when you add the plot it's just amazing. That alone is reason enough for me to want to buy it for myself. As a side note, another reason why I would want to play this game is the overworld sequences (Actually, there's nothing BUT overworld). Ever since riding Epona in LoZ and Shadowmere in Oblivion, I've wanted a game were I can just take a horse and ride around a vast overworld - which in 60% or more of this game. That may sound like a silly reason to fall in love with the game, but coupling that with the powerful setting, this game is now very high on my favorites list.
Final Fantasy V (
HCBailly) My first HCBailly LP, and I had mixed reactions. At first, I thought his silliness was kind of amusing, but soon I tired of his silly reactions and such, and was just watching for the game. But after a while, I got used to the way he talked, and found it hilarious, and really enjoyed it. The game was pretty fun, though I forgot how long RPGs could be, and HCBailly brought out some interesting hilarity that I wouldn't have caught playing it on my own. I decided to work through Final Fantasy because everyone else has liked it (though, of course, I didn't enjoy the turn-based battle system DX), and someone suggested starting with five.
Ico (
Quadraxis14) The predecessor (Was made before) and sequel (Occurs chronologically after) to Shadow of the Colossus, I decided to watch this game to get a better picture of SotC and the Ico Team productions. I found two people doing LPs on this, and I chose this guy because he didn't talk during the opening cutscene. I think I was really tired while watching this, however, because it was harder to get into the story. I definitely think Shadow of the Colossus connects with the player more - this game was mostly puzzle solving, and had a very foggy storyline. For Shadow of the Colossus, the unclear story was what made it more powerful, but here, I just didn't really get what was going on. Maybe that's just me, though. The LPer was pretty good, he didn't talk during the more important scenes and helped explain what he was doing. Definitely worth playing at least once, and at least knowing about before SotC.
